British snowboarders miss out on medals in Slopestyle
The first ever men’s slopestyle gold medal has gone to American Sage Kotsenburg in a nail-biting final. Coming in second was Staale Sandbech of Norway. Bronze went to Canadian favourite Mark McMorris.
Jamie Nicholls from Bradford scored an 85.5, putting him into sixth place. He came close to reaching the podium but was outclassed by the other competitors. He was consistent and is certainly one to watch for the future – this will not be his last Winter Games.
Britain’s Billy Morgan came tenth with a score of 39.75. He fell in both his runs trying to pull tricks he’s been landing all week in practice. He came top in the semi-final scoring 90.75. Another promising young snowboarder, we expect to see great things from Morgan as he progresses.
On Sunday Aimee Fuller and Jenny Jones will compete for a place in the women’s slopestyle final.
Sochi 2014: What Went Down in the Slopestyle Qualifiers
The Olympics began one day before the opening ceremony for the snowboard slopestyle qualifiers. The surprise news of the day was the announcement that gold medalist, Shaun White, has pulled out of the slopestyle competition.
